At least one Greenwich Villager likes the proposed overhaul of St. Vincent’s Hospital. “The primary thing they’re doing is very important, which is to dramatically improve the quality of the hospital,” said New School president Bob Kerrey at a Natural Resources Defense Council benefit April 1. “There might be some marginal changes they could make, some adjustments in heights. But overall, I think it’s going to be good for the community.” The former senator lives down the block from the hospital, on West 11th Street. “I think the plan will actually increase the light on 11th and 12th Streets,” he said. “It will improve the look of the community.” What about the modernist O’Toole Building, which St. Vincent’s plans to destroy? “The overbite building? I have no problem with taking it down,” he said. “I don’t walk by that building and say, ‘Boy, that’s beautiful.’ What I look forward to is walking by and saying, ‘There’s a great hospital.’ ”
