‘Berlin to Broadway With Kurt Weill’

The revival of the revue Berlin to Broadway With Kurt Weill is Weill for beginners: Neophytes and the undemanding will benefit from it. For the more knowledgeable, two things stand out: the snazzy pianism of Eric Stern, who even looks like a Jewish Brecht; and the young Swede Bjorn Olsson. Though a baritone, he reminded me – in looks, vocal acumen, linguistic and histrionic prowess – of his great countryman, the tenor Nicolai Gedda.
