Make The Leap: Vintage KangaROOS sneakers.Photo: Peter Berson

When they were introduced in 1979, KangaROOS sneakers were meant to be a nifty way for joggers to carry keys—but the most loyal fans were 5-year-olds who thought the trademark side pockets were perfect for milk money. Largely forgotten since then, ’ROOS have now joined the retro-sneaker revival. With their bright colors (electric blue, hot pink) and old-school designs (the silver pair are just made for moonwalking), they’re guaranteed to provoke nostalgia. And unlike those $220 limited-edition Nikes at Alife, they have a price tag (from $50 to $65) that won’t send you running from the store. (David Z has the best selection; see davidz.com.)
