BBC Radio Cumbria is the BBC’s local radio station covering the county of Cumbria. It broadcasts a mix of news and information, conversation and entertainment (including specialist music), and reflects life in the area.
What is the remit of BBC Radio Cumbria?
The station offers a range of news and information about the editorial area along with national and international news, plus regular weather and travel updates. Also on offer are music and entertainment shows including a wide range of programmes for those with specialist music tastes.
BBC Radio Cumbria reflects local sport with football commentaries on every Carlisle United and Barrow AFC game, plus a range of coverage of other sporting activities.
Although most listeners are over 50, the station aims to appeal to anyone who is interested in Cumbria.

History of BBC Radio Cumbria
BBC Radio Cumbria started out as BBC Radio Carlisle on 24 November 1973, and has developed a large and loyal following which it maintains to this day.
We have, of course, been at the heart of the county providing vital information during big local stories such as Foot and Mouth and various serious flooding incidents, but throughout we’ve provided friendship and companionship for thousands of people across the county.
