Luxury retail isn’t having the best moment right now. But that’s not stopping Giorgio Armani from opening his 40,000-plus-square-foot compound—connected by this serpentine stairway—in midtown on February 18 (717 Fifth Ave., at 56th St.; 212-339-5950). The first of its kind in the U.S., it will house all the labels (Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Armani Jeans, EA7, Armani Casa) under one roof, mixed together by the man himself, who is coming over to host a party during Fashion Week on Tuesday night. In addition to four floors of shopping, there’s a full-service restaurant—Italian, of course. For a short history of other Armani turning points, click here.
