Paul Smith finally has a New York presence that more accurately reflects the designer’s international stature. The 5,000-square-foot store, on a block otherwise filled with couch and mirror stores, houses Smith’s designs for men, women, and the home (142 Greene St., nr. W. Houston St.; 646-613-3060). As one might expect from the man who made pattern-mixing his signature, the store’s walls are packed with prints and paintings, and there are vintage books for shoppers not intent on buying a skinny suit or tapestry blazer.

More noteworthy moves: After years of being tucked away on side streets and second floors, Roberta Freymann is opening on October 27 a street-level avenue shop called Roberta Roller Rabbit for her exotic-flavored loungewear and home accessories (1019 Lexington Ave., at 73rd St.; 212-772-7200). In what seems to be a Manhattan takeover, Calypso is opening their fourth store, along with the new CALYPSO Christiane Celle Enfant concept store for baby furniture, toys, and gear (407 Broome St., nr. Cleveland Pl.;212-941-9700).
