Lee Reynolds conducts Adams, Barber, Higgins & Gershwin
Conductor Lee Reynolds returns to the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a programme of 20th century snapshots.
With each piece, an image of a changing world, we bring an eclectic mix of styles to the studio, including jazz, late Romanticism, and minimalism. Also joining us, soprano Sophia Burgos, who takes on Samuel Barber’s hauntingly nostalgic Knoxville: Summer of 1915.
We also hear the world premiere of Gavin Higgins’ Cortège for a Coal Mine, a BBC Radio 3 commission written to commemorate the closure of Britain’s last deep coal mine.
