Geography KS1/KS2. Comparing locations (Your world)

These child-led geography clips compare UK locations to contrasting, non-European, locations and regions.

The clips are suitable for KS1 and KS2 in England, Progression Step 2 and 3 in Wales, Early and 1st and 2nd level in Scotland and Foundation and KS1 in Northern Ireland. The location comparisons are ideal for Key Stage 1, which demands comparison of a UK location with a non-European location. The thematic content - which includes cities, climate, coasts, rivers, islands, capitals, etc - also supports geography study at Key Stage 2.

The series includes:

  • What it’s like living in hilly cities, using the examples of Edinburgh in Scotland and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia
  • An exploration of contrasting climates in the North of England and northern Australia
  • A comparison of living in the suburbs of Birmingham and Johannesburg in South Africa
  • Discovering similarities and differences in two very different cities located on rivers: Belfast and Pune in India
  • A comparison of two remote locations: Shetland and Iqaluit in Canada
  • The lives of two children living in capital megacities: London and Tokyo
  • A comparison of two coastal capitals: Cardiff and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.
