‘Oh Goody’: Marvin the Martian to Blow Up Your Nostalgia
WB Seeing Red: Another victory in Hollywood’s War on Original Ideas! Warner Bros. has started development on a Marvin the Martian feature that will blend live action and CG. Abnormally intelligent producer Steve Crystal cracked the story when he realized it’s “a Christmas story, with Marvin coming to Earth to destroy Christmas,†an idea that makes us want to swallow an Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator. Lucas Feeling Side Effects: Glory Road’s Josh Lucas will star in Possible Side Effects, Tim Robbins’s drama pilot for Showtime about the pharmaceutical industry — specifically about the head of a dysfunctional family in the drug-makin’ business who tries to keep everyone together during a public controversy. As with all controversies involving Josh Lucas, it began, of course, when someone mistook him for Matthew McConaughey. [HR]
Del Toro Afraid of the Dark: Guillermo del Toro and Miramax are producing a remake of ABC’s 1973 TV movie Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Comic-book writer-artist Troy Nixey will direct the story of a girl who moves in with her father and discovers “sinister creatures that live under the stairs.†It’s Guillermo del Toro — what were you expecting, a docudrama about the ‘03 New York blackout? [HR]
Keys and White Study Quantum Theory: Alicia Keys and Jack White will record the theme song to the new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, marking the first duet in the franchise’s history. Poor Meg; not only is Jack in a duet without her, he’s playing the drums probably just to show her up. [HR]
Petrie Designs Clothes: Donald Petrie (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) will direct and produce Fashionistas, the romantic comedy based on Lynn Messina’s debut novel about a girl working at a design house who tries to take down her vicious boss by inventing a fictitious designer. At the end everyone falls in love or whatever the fuck. [Variety]
