Despite last week’s mostly invented controversy, Slumdog Millionaire’s Danny Boyle scored top honors from the Directors Guild of America on Saturday night, continuing an awards run so impressive that it now requires its own Wikipedia page. As Tom O’Neil points out, DGA victors go on to win Best Picture about 80 percent of the time. He doesn’t cite statistics for directors who’ve won top prizes from the DGA, the Producers Guild, the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the Golden Globes, the National Board of Review, and SAG, but we’d imagine that they frequently go on to purchase new shelving units.
