The trailer for Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist hit the Internet last night, and certainly no one could argue that it doesn’t show you Willem Dafoe’s naked rear end. But does this movie really look sufficiently terrifying? From what we gather, it stars Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg as a married couple who move to a cabin in the woods to grieve the death of a child, but go off their meds and wind up in an imagined (?) hell in which they’re forced to bang their heads on toilets and have sex atop a many-armed tree stump. Scary stuff, to be sure — but shouldn’t the trailer for a Von Trier film about the Antichrist be way creepier than a simple, jump-cut-y one for a standard-issue cabin-in-the-woods-style horror movie? Either way, you can probably count on us having nightmares tonight.
