Rage Cage: Nicolas Cage and Cameron Diaz are in talks for The Green Hornet, the Seth Rogen–Michel Gondry superhero flick. Cage would play a gangster villain, while Diaz would play a reporter and love interest. So, people who have a hard time suspending their disbelief, could skinny, international-playboy–secret-crime-fighter Rogen land Diaz? [Variety]
Message!: Uma Thurman will star in Girl Soldier, the adaptation of Kathy Cook’s nonfiction book Stolen Angels. Thurman will play a nun in Uganda who, in 1996, helped rescue 140 schoolgirls kidnapped by armed rebels who were planning on turning them into soldiers and sex slaves. Says Thurman: “It’s beyond me that in this day and age the exploitation of child soldiers goes virtually unnoticed and unchecked by Western media.†Uma Thurman: Making sense all over the place! Shaq Attack: Shaquille O’Neal will star in Shaq vs. for ABC, a reality show in which he’ll go up against top athletes in their own sport. The lineup so far includes Michael Phelps, Ben Roethlisberger, Serena Williams, beach volleyball duo Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, and Oscar de la Hoya. “I plan to train hard and win,†says Shaq — surely good news for the Cleveland Cavaliers organization, which will be paying him $20 million next year to go up against top athletes in his own sport. Atlas a Go?: Charlize Theron may star as Dagny Taggart, the main character of Ayn Rand’s giant best seller Atlas Shrugged, in a planned mini-series adaptation. Lionsgate and producers Howard and Karen Baldwin have been kicking around the idea of doing the book as a mini-series for Epix, a pay-cable network Lionsgate is forming with MGM and Viacom/Paramount, and Theron has apparently lobbied for the role. But then again, as The Hollywood Reporter points out, studios have been trying to make an Atlas Shrugged adaptation since 1972, so this one probably won’t work out, either. [HR]
TV’s Don: The Lifetime movie adaptations of Patricia Cornwell crime novels At Risk and The Front have a primary cast: Daniel Sunjata will play Massachusetts State investigator Winston Garano and Andie MacDowell will play his supervisor and partner-in-crime-solving district attorney, Monique Lamont. Should they really be making more Lifetime movies after reaching the pinnacle of their existence with these? [Variety]
