He may be its only hope! Michael Riedel reports this morning that Disney, which announced plans to acquire Marvel on Monday, has no interest in rescuing Julie Taymor’s ailing $45 million Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, presumably because they know better. So it was Bono, co-writer of the soundtrack, who raised the money (not his own) to pay for the skeleton crew of designers and stagehands that resumed work on the musical this morning. Of course, he’ll need to find lots more cash if he hopes to hire back the cast, find a new producer, finish renovations on the Hilton Theatre, and market this thing to a successful February 25 opening — but when was the last time he let anyone down? (Prior to U2’s most recent album, we mean.)
