Horsing Around: John Malkovich is joining Secreteriat, the biopic of the 1973 Triple Crown winner, which stars Diane Lane as the horse’s gender-barrier-smashing owner, Penny Tweedy. He’ll play the horse’s charismatic trainer, who underestimates its ability. Also now onboard are Dylan Walsh, as Tweedy’s husband, a high-powered attorney used to his wife being the submissive sort, and Scott Glen, as an aristocrat who loses the horse in a coin toss. No word yet on who will play the fat, rich rival-horse-owner cliché. [HR]
Double Sherlock: Warner Bros. is close to a deal with screenwriters Kieran and Michele Mulroney to pen a sequel for December’s jazzed-up Guy Ritchie–directed, Robert Downey Jr.–starring Sherlock Holmes. As you may recall, the preannounced-sequel strategy boded well for Star Trek and The Hangover this summer. The weird thing here, though, is that Kieran and Michele Mulroney did not write the first, now presumably shoddily scripted, Holmes movie. [Variety]
Crime Pays: Good news! CBS is finally getting more crime procedurals! Two, to be precise: one from Peter Tolan (Rescue Me) about an eccentric college professor who solves crimes, and another from Ed Redlich (Without a Trace) called The Rememberer, about a female detective who is able to (wait for it) remember everything. Does that mean we shouldn’t expect to hear back about our pitch for a Cam Jansen show? [Variety]
More Fall Out: Even better news! Fall Out Boy creative content will now be available in more than just the boring old music format. Pete Wentz and fashion designer Darren Romanelli are collaborating on a five-part comic-book series called Fall Out Toy Works, about a toymaker and his robotic female creation, with the first installment out now. So like a sexy Pinocchio? [Billboard]
Twilight Tunes: The following bands are on the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, and are therefore promised long, healthy careers: Lykke Li, the Killers, Muse, Bon Iver (in a collaboration with St. Vincent), Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, OK GO, Sea Wolf, and the Editors, as well as the previously announced Death Cab for Cutie and Thom Yorke. Congratulations, all. [Billboad]
Date Set: The League, a fantasy-football comedy airing on FX, will premiere October 29 after It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. And tomorrow, we blindly hope, we’ll have some actually interesting industry news. [HR]
