Earlier this year, we counted down our ten favorite multiple-role performances in the history of cinema. A few of our selections — Nicolas Cage in Adaptation, Jeremy Irons in Dead Ringers — were actors who took on the particularly challenging task of portraying dueling twins onscreen. And now, another well-respected actor has decided to try to succeed where the likes of Jean-Claude Van Damme have failed. Ed Norton stars in director Tim Blake Nelson’s Leaves of Grass, which, as far as we can tell, has very little to do with the Walt Whitman classic that Bill Clinton once gave to Monica Lewinsky. In this take, Norton portrays twin brothers: One is a play-by-the-rules college-professor type, and the other is a pothead drug dealer on the run from some nefarious bad guys. It doesn’t exactly look like Oscar material, though it has the potential to be a bit of a hoot.
