Fucked Up’s much-anticipated cover of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?†has been available on iTunes since yesterday, but we wanted to wait until we could stream it here before highlighting the all-star indie parody charity song (that actually benefits real charities, like Murdered Indigenous Women and Justice for the Missing). It features Yo La Tengo, GZA, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, Bob Mould, Tegan & Sara, Andrew W.K., TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone, David Cross, and Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew; playing “who’s singing now?†is enough of a reason to check this out, but honestly, the punk-rock take is making us reconsider the musical validity of the original. Plus, as Fucked Up’s Damian Abraham told us last month when we asked him if he’s changing any of the words: “Oh, God no. The lyrics are tasteless enough as it is.†Now go buy it on iTunes and support the cause!
