Unloved Line: NBC has ordered a pilot for an untitled comedy starring the much-underappreciated Adam Carolla. The project comes from Jackhole Industries, the production company Carolla runs with Jimmy Kimmel, and will feature Carolla playing a contractor who tries to rebuild his life after his divorce. Expect to learn exactly how women are like cars. [THR]
Dune Deal: Paramount’s adaptation of Dune has a director! It’s Pierre Morel, who was last behind the camera for Taken. Before yelling “Action,†Morel is working on the script that was originally developed by Peter Berg. Based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, the film is about the galactic battle to control a valuable spice found only on one planet. A spice worth all that fighting must make everything taste like pizza, right? [Variety]
The Greatest Casting of Our Time: Sebastian Stan, who plays Carter Baizen on Gossip Girl, will star opposite Ashley Green in Apparition, a horror film from Dark Castle Entertainment. The movie will center on a couple that is haunted by a supernatural being unleashed during a college experiment gone awry. And you thought the scariest thing about college was the weight gain. [THR]
He’s So Crazy: Martin Lawrence is set to make his long-awaited return to TV with Love That Girl!, a comedy that he will executive produce for the cable network TV One. Writer-director Bentley Kyle Evans has already shot the first four episodes of the show, with Tatyana Ali of Fresh Prince fame starring. The show is about a young divorcee who moves back home to take a job at her father’s real estate firm and move in with her unemployed brother. Hopefully their neighbor is the inimitable Sheneneh Jenkins. [THR]
Motor City Mockumentary: ABC has picked up a new crime drama set in Detroit called 187 Detroit. Shot in mockumentary style, the show follows a homicide division around the rough and tumble city. Strangely, it is described as a having a “sometimes humorous tone.†It’s hard to imagine a homicide detective in Detroit ever finding time to be humorous. [Live Feed]
