Ghostface, Raekwon, and Method Man Dream a Dream

In the Pazz & Jop poll this year, Sean Fennessey took a mild poke at the critical fawning over Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx … Pt. II, writing “an album from 1995 slid in [the top ten] somehow … a nostalgic — regressive, in fact — choice that valued sonic efficiency and storytelling detail, if not innovation.†It’s a salient point, and one that you should totally ignore if you want to uncomplicatedly enjoy “Our Dreams,†the first single from Method Man, Raekwon, and Ghostface’s Wu-Tang spinoff. It leaked a few weeks ago, but has been officially released today along with the above cover. (According to Rae, the name of the album will be Three the Hard Way and it’ll be out March 9, so we guess Wu Massacre is the name of the group?) With a fat chunk of M.J.’s “We’re Almost There†on the loop, the three take turns waxing nostalgic over ex-girlfriends, and the result is as familiar as it is great.
