Freida Prepares for War: Slumdog Millionaire’s Freida Pinto will star in War of the Gods, a Tarsem Singh–directed mythology epic. Pinto will play Phaedra, an “oracle priestess†who joins Theseus (The Tudors’ Henry Cavill) on a quest to take on the immortal Greek gods to “defeat evil and save mankind,†goals Pinto will no doubt easily achieve without getting a speck of dirt on her face or with one hair falling out of place. [Variety]
Hill Will Sit: Jonah Hill will star in The Sitter for Fox, a comedy that follows a college student, living at home after being suspended from school, who gets convinced to babysit the “eccentric†kids next door. David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) is in talks to direct the film, which has been in development for a while, with both Zac Efron and Zach Galifianakis having expressed interest in it. And what is Jonah Hill if not a near-perfect combination of Efron and Galifianakis? [HR]
Bad Boy: Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) is in talks to join Cameron Diaz in the Jake Kasdan comedy Bad Teacher. Diaz will play a “foul-mouthed, gold-digging†teacher who, after getting dumped by her boyfriend, attempts to take down a colleague (Lucy Punch) who is dating the school’s resident hottie. Unclear whether Segel realized when he signed on that he will not be playing the “hottie†under pursuit by Diaz — he’s the gym teacher. [HR]
Redemption!: Casey Wilson, who got unceremoniously booted off of Saturday Night Live last year, has found a Happy Ending. She has landed a lead role in an ABC comedy pilot actually called Happy Endings, which revolves around a couple who separate and must figure out how to maintain a relationship with four of their close friends. But no happy ending comes without a mitigating caveat: Wilson will play the friend who is “bitterly single.†[HR]
Anjelic: Anjelica Huston and Philip Baker Hall (Magnolia) have joined the cast of the film I’m With Cancer, starring Seth Rogen, James McAvoy, Anna Kendrick, and Bryce Dallas Howard. Directed by Jonathan Levine, the comedy follows a man (McAvoy) who learns he has cancer and battles the disease over several years. Classic comedy stuff! [Variety]
