Record Label Chief Addresses Taylor Swift Backlash

While winning four Grammys on Sunday night may indeed have been the biggest accomplishment of young Taylor Swift’s life, it didn’t come without a price. Thanks to her tone-deaf caterwauling during a duet with Stevie Nicks and the disingenuous manner in which she delivered her acceptance speeches, the Taylor Swift backlash has been raging for the better part of the last three days. Strangely (and somewhat tellingly), no one in her camp exactly rushed to her defense. Until now!

Scott Borchetta, CEO of Taylor Swift’s record label, Big Machine Records, spoke to the Associated Press about his cash cow’s, um, let’s say “pitchy†performance on Sunday night. “This is not American Idol,†he explained, probably not realizing that he slammed Swift’s biggest competition, one Carrie Underwood. “This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.†We totally concur! After all, when has the music industry ever really been about singing?

But if you’re still not a believer, Borchetta has an offer you can’t refuse. “If you haven’t seen her live performance, you’re welcome to come out as my guest to a Taylor Swift show and experience the whole thing, because it’s amazing,†he said. We’re not entirely sure how to take Borchetta up on his generous offer, but the next time we want to catch Swifty in concert, we’re definitely gonna charge it to the Underhills.
