2006 Academy Award darling Little Miss Sunshine will be getting the musical treatment. The film will be adapted for the stage by three-time Tony winner James Lapine and William Finn (the duo behind 2005’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), and will premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse next February. Working for the adaptation is that the movie already has a stirring dance-number finale in place (to Rick James’s “Super Freak,†no less!); working against it is that basically the whole thing takes place in a car.
