Rumor No. 1: Josh Hutcherson is up for the role of Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Rumor No. 2: Josh Hutcherson was up for the role, but now he’s not. So which one is it? Well, at yesterday’s lunch for Hutcherson’s latest movie, The Kids Are All Right, at Rouge Tomate in midtown, the actor himself told us it could be either. “It’s just rumors,†he said. “I know as much as everybody else does at this point.â€
Hutcherson says he only found out he was seriously in the mix when he read it in The Hollywood Reporter, and thinks there are too many contenders for anyone but Sony and Webb to have a clue as to who will be ultimately cast. “Everybody is going in for it. All my friends are going in for it,†he said. “I mean, when I found out it was being made, obviously I was going to do everything I could to be cast and be a part of it. But so many people are showing up for the role there’s just no way to tell.†The screen test, he said, was — disappointingly — just like a regular audition: “No making out, no masks, no spandex. Pretty straight-forward. All I know is I went in and read. I felt good about it, but who knows. They have to see Peter Parker in me, so I have no idea.â€
