leak of the week

Leaked: The Universe Finally Let Big Boi Release His Album!

Big Boi, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

Official release date: July 6, 2010

The verdict: Well, technically there’s a week to go, but seeing as the finished product is making the Internet rounds (and streaming on his MySpace page) right now, it’s safe to say that Big Boi’s long-gestating solo album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty will — after three-plus years of leaks, delays, and miscellaneous industry drama — see an actual, real-deal release. So does it justify all those heaving piles of aggrieved music-blog posts raging at the industry? Yes! The third of the album that’s already seen the light of day in some form or another has been vouched for repeatedly, so allow us to do the same for the other two-thirds; namely, the conspiracy-theory spewing joyride on “Daddy Fat Sax,” the jaunty bounce of “Turns Me On,” and the excellently creepy chorus turned in by Jamie Foxx (yes, Jamie Foxx) on “Hustle Blood.” That said, the best moment of the album may be the transition from two relative oldies, “Shutterbugg” to “General Patton”: just a massive album getting even massive-r. For those worried that the best stuff from Sir Lucious had already been exposed? Big Boi’s got something for you.
