Since the dress code for the amfAR Inspiration Gala, which took place at the New York Public Library last week, was “black tie/black leather,†we had to ask: real or fake? Cyndi Lauper was conflicted, telling us: “Oh, fake leather and real leather. You’re always looking to see which one is less hot. Like, temperature hot. I eat meat; I’m not a vegetarian. Do I think animals are treated badly? Yes, and it’s awful. But I do eat it, and I wear real leather.†And is there any place where wearing black leather wouldn’t be a good idea? “No. I mean, think about it — you can wear it anywhere. You can wear leather to bed; you can wear leather onstage; you can wear leather out. I guess in the summertime it’s too hot, but you could always wear light leather.
