As expected, tearjerker Toy Story 3 dominated the box office this weekend, earning an estimated $109 million in 4,028 theaters, the best opening weekend ever for a Pixar movie (Shrek The Third still has the opening weekend record for an animated movie with its $121.6 million haul in 2007). The Karate Kid dropped 48 percent in its second weekend, adding an additional $29 million to its take. Sunday’s returns were not so bright for Jonah Hex, however. The beleaguered Josh Brolin-Megan Fox flick earned just $5.1 million for an eighth-place finish. [HR]
