Social Network: Mark Zuckerberg’s a Creep

After two teaser trailers that didn’t feature footage from the actual film, the first full-length trailer for The Social Network arrives, with said footage, and, wow, it’s a doozy. For the first minute, a choir performs a ghostly rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep†while Facebook images flash by: “Wanna have control†as someone clicks on “Add as a friend.†“Want a perfect body. Want a perfect soul†as photos flash by. “I want you to notice, when I’m not around … †while various status updates come onscreen. And then the footage cuts to Jesse Eisenberg playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg just as the song gets to its chorus: “I’m a creep. I’m a weirdo.†So, yes, probably this movie is not going to portray him in the best light! The song threads through the rest of the footage, which shows Zuckerberg starting Facebook and just as quickly getting legally entangled with just about everyone. There is lots of courtroom drama, angry words, Justin Timberlake, the next Spider-Man, a focus on the huge chip the nerdy Zuckerberg has on his shoulder, and, most of all, the sense that director David Fincher has some really grand ambitions with this project.
