A week before its October 1 national premiere, David Fincher’s The Social Network — a very dramatic telling of the origins of Facebook starring indie heartthrob Jesse Eisenberg — will open this year’s New York Film Festival. Says producer Scott Rudin: “This is the rare example of a movie that is about something that is happening at this very moment … It’s about ambition, it’s about greed. It’s about betrayal. It’s about friendship. It’s about trying to be on the inside of something when you feel, terminally, on the outside of everything.†No other films have been announced for NYFF, although rest assured none of them will be about the totally boring origins of MySpace.
