Industry Roundup: Murphy, Gordon, Fuller

Dream Team: Glee showrunner Ryan Murphy and 24 showrunner Howard Gordon are uniting to develop a new drama project, currently in negotiations to end up at Fox. The two television powerhouses will co-write and executive produce the project, which is described as “a high-concept character-driven procedural that deals with making people face their worst fears and phobias.†It will center on a psychiatrist and include “supernatural elements,†revolving around larger mysteries. Sounds like a high-brow blend of Fear Factor and The X-Files! [Deadline]

Fuller Moves To Movies: Warner Bros. is adapting Pinocchio for the big screen with a live-action feature that will be written by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me). Producer Dan Jinks offered these promising words: “I think we’ve found a fresh approach that’s going to be very entertaining.†Fortunately for them, they’re almost assured of surpassing the most recent Pinocchio project, Roberto Benigni’s bizarre 2002 version. [Variety]

J. Love Returns: Jennifer Love Hewitt is attached to a potential new series written by Walt Becker (Wild Hogs) and Tiffany Paulsen (Nancy Drew), which Fox is in talks to pick up. The half-hour comedy is being called a “female Big Bang Theory,†which, uh, means she’s playing a nerd? Hmm. [Deadline]

Yay, Yay, Yay: Welsh pop singer Duffy will release her sophomore album, titled Endlessly, on November 29 in the U.K. Her first single, “Well, Well, Well,†features The Roots on the rhythm section. Neat! [Billboard]

Trio of Steel: James Denton, Christina Hendricks and Anthony LaPaglia are lending their voices to All-Star Superman, an animated adaptation of the tale of the Man of Steel. The story begins with Superman (Denton) “oversaturated by radiation†during a rescue mission, which leads to the “degeneration†of his cells. Without much time left before he believes he will die, he decides to set out on a journey, revealing his true identity to Lois Lane (Hendricks) and confronting Lex Luthor (LaPaglia). A cheery Superman tale, this isn’t, apparently. [Heat Vision/HR]

Proyas In Paradise: Alex Proyas (I, Robot) will direct an adaptation of John Milton’s poem Paradise Lost, which tells the story of the “epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer.†The film will possibly be shot in 3D, just as Milton always envisioned it. [Variety]

Switch: Rachel Ticotin will co-star as a regular in NBC’s upcoming series Law & Order: Los Angeles. Ticotin will replace Wanda De Jesus, who recently left the series, in the role of a new lieutenant who heads the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division. Hopefully she’s a fast learner considering the show is premiering September 29. [Deadline]
