Sofia’s Second Family: Ben Silverman and Sofia Vergara (Modern Family) will executive produce a single-camera comedy, the first broadcast scripted project for Silverman’s new company Electus. The show, which ABC is close to acquiring, is based on the Spanish series Aquà no hay quien viva (loosely translated as I Hate This Place). The series is described as “a multi-cultural and multi-generational comedy in the tone of Modern Family and set in an apartment building.†Well, it took a year, but it looks like the Modern Family–inspired shows are finally a-comin’. Sweetness: Doug Sweetland — who directed the Oscar-nominated Pixar short Presto, the magician-and-rabbit short that played before WALL-E — will be making the leap to feature films.
