A So-Called Spy: Claire Danes is talking to Showtime about starring in the upcoming thriller project Homeland. Based on an Israeli series and produced by 24 producer Howard Gordon, the show will revolve around “Carrie Anderson — the role that Danes would play — a smart, driven and iconoclastic CIA case officer who tracks down threats to homeland security coming from the Middle East.†The plot will be driven by the return to America of a soldier, Scott Brody, who went missing in Baghdad during the 2003 invasion. Danes “receives a tip from an informant that the American POW enjoying a hero’s welcome home has been turned and he is leading the next big strike against the American homeland. The series chronicles Anderson’s efforts to expose Brody and uncover the truth.†[Deadline]
U.N.C.L.E. Steven: Steven Soderbergh is in talks to direct the movie remake of the sixties television show The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Plans for a remake of the show, which aired from 1964 to 1968 on NBC, have been tossed around for over a decade. Any update will probably have to skate over the fact that the cold war ended: The original “focused on the adventures of American and Russian members of a secret agency called the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement.†[HR]
Playpeople: Playboy TV is expected to announce TV for 2, “a new adult programming slate aimed at couples, which will begin to roll out in January.†The first show is called Brooklyn Kinda Love, and it’s about the “intricacies of four real couples’ relationships.†Other planned shows include “Swing, featuring monogamous [couples] as they venture into alternative lifestyles guided by a sex therapist, and Playboy’s Sextreme Makeover, featuring couples who receive intimacy advice from experts.†[Deadline]
Blue to Black: TNT will not renew Dark Blue, its Dylan McDermott cop show, which finished its second season this past summer. It’s not a surprise — TNT renewed the Jada Pinkett Smith drama Hawthorne for a third season two months ago, but didn’t mention what would happen to McDermott’s show. [Deadline]
