If you watched last night’s How I Met Your Mother, that “Two Beavers” duet by Robin Sparkles (Cobie Smulders) and Jessica Glitter (Nicole Scherzinger) is still stuck in your head this morning. To make sure it stays there for at least the next week, Vulture is debuting the official video for said track, featuring a mix of footage from the episode blended with material that didn’t make it into the broadcast (yes, the robot and the Queen both get plenty of screen time, as does Alan Thicke). HIMYM co-creator Carter Bays tells Vulture he and partner Craig Thomas try to set a high bar for revisiting the Sparkles mythology: After the first two songs, “Sand Castles in the Sand” and “Let’s Go to the Mall,” Bays says, “We knew there had to be an extra joke [to justify a new track],” he says. “We couldn’t just make fun of the eighties and Canada again.” That something “extra,” of course, was the over-the-top lasciviousness of “Two Beavers.” And it turns out there was much debate in the writers’ room about just how far to push the double entendre. “For three days it was, ‘Are we doing this beaver thing or not?’” Bays says. “And we decided you can’t just half do it. Ultimately, you have to embrace the beaver.” Fresh beaver after the jump.
