Somewhere Is Not About Sofia Coppola’s Family Life

While reviewers take pleasure in probing Sofia Coppola’s new film, Somewhere, for signs of her personal life, the director says it’s all for naught. “It has personal memories,†she told the L.A. Times. “But my childhood and my parents aren’t like that.†It might be tempting to see the film, about a B-list actor trying to connect with his daughter, as a reflection of her relationship with her dad, but the director says the movie was actually borne out of her fascination with tabloid stories and a real-life 12-year-old she knows. Similar to Elle Fanning’s character, the Hollywood-raised girl happens to be more stable than her parents. [LAT]
