Frequent collaborators Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman both had a tough time of it when they last struck out on their own — Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are was a time-consuming project that necessitated a lot of studio battles, while Kaufman’s beautiful Synecdoche, New York made barely a box-office ripple — and now both have returned to safer territory. The L.A. Times reports that Jonze and Kaufman are pitching a heavily guarded script that Kaufman will write and Jonze will direct, which would be the first such reteaming since 2002’s Adaptation. (Kaufman did set up a recent project called Frank or Francis at Sony — it’s a filmmaking musical! — but it never got much traction.) Best news ever or best news ever? Answer: best news ever.
