The fact that Muatassim Qaddafi, the corrupt son of besieged Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi, likes to spend his New Year’s Eves in St. Barts throwing ridiculous parties where he flies in huge pop stars for exorbitant sums of money is not news: Reports of Mariah Carey getting paid a cool million for four songs in 2009, and Usher and Beyoncé rocking the bash in 2010, were widespread at the time they occurred. All three got some flack for their questionable decision-making but ultimately skated away from the incidents. Well, this might still come back to haunt them: With Libya in a state of revolt, WikiLeaks has released additional cables detailing the Qaddafi son’s unseemly spending habits, specifically recounting again Muatassim’s taste in American pop music. More to the point: It’s partially this kind of behavior from Qaddafi and his kids that has the Libyan people so mad that they’re revolting. In other words: Mariah Carey, Usher, and Beyoncé just accidentally had a hand in the attempted overthrow of the Libyan government. Whoops! [Daily Intel, NYT]
