A Change at the Top of USA Network

Jeff Wachtel

There’s more fallout from Comcast’s acquisition of NBC Universal — but unlike the continuing changes at the Peacock mothership, these moves are all about promoting existing execs to loftier roles rather than folks being shown the door. USA Network, the top-rated basic cable channel, will today announce the promotion of programming chief Jeff Wachtel and marketing head Chris McCumber to co-presidents. The shift makes sense: Post-merger, Bonnie Hammer, who had been in charge of USA on a day-to-day basis, was promoted to a much bigger job overseeing all of the various cable networks in the Kabletown empire (such as E! and SyFy.) Wachtel and McCumber, meanwhile, have both been vital to USA’s growth in recent years; they’ll now have more autonomy to shape the network, though they’ll continue to report to Hammer. Still unresolved: What is Burn Notice?
