With the nation teetering on the brink of a potentially devastating debt default, what better time than now to check out a movie about our other recent plunge into financial ruin? That’s what the trailer for the upcoming movie Margin Call promises; well, that, and also a whole bunch of stars. Spanning one 24-hour period in 2008, the drama tracks the beginning of the country’s economic crisis as seen by the players in one investment firm, who include Zachary Quinto, Demi Moore, Kevin Spacey, and Stanley Tucci (alas, Tucci is not reprising his deliciously hammy Captain America accent in this movie). The filmmakers are selling the movie as a thriller, and indeed, the glossy production values and urgent-yet-obscure dialogue could have come from any episode of24 (which also once starred Quinto as a computer analyst), but will it feel that thrilling when audience members already know the unhappy ending in store for them?
