Remember Plain Jane, the blink-and-you-missed-it CW reality show that sort of felt a little like a rom-com, in which women had makeovers and then confessed their feelings to their longtime crushes? While reviewers were actually pretty positive about the show, it came and went last summer without much attention (or ratings.) Well, now the CW has quietly decided to bring Jane back, at least in repeats. A network rep told Vulture that Season 1 encores will begin airing Thursday, July 21, at 9 p.m. (opposite Big Brother — argh!). Why revive a show that hasn’t been renewed for a second season? Well, for one thing, reruns of many of CW’s existing shows are barely registering in the ratings, prompting new network chief Mark Pedowitz to experiment with different ways of luring folks to the channel during the summer. But it’s also possible (and we’re admittedly just speculating here) that Pedowitz wants to see if there’s any spark in the Jane concept at all, perhaps with an eye on ordering original episodes of the show at some point in the future. Then again, considering the fact that the CW hasn’t updated the Jane Facebook page since last August … maybe not.
