NBC’s upcoming small-screen version of The Firm has found its female lead. Vulture has learned that Molly Parker, best known for Deadwood and Swingtown, has been cast as Abby McDeere in the John Grisham legal drama, which is being produced by Entertainment One, Sony Pictures Televisions Networks, and Paramount Pictures. In case you haven’t Netflixed The Firm lately, Abby is the wife of lead character Mitch McDeere, the crusading lawyer played by Tom Cruise in the original movie (where Jeanne Tripplehorn played Abby). In addition to Parker, the new Firm also boasts Juliette Lewis and Callum Keith Rennie (The Killing), and will start production in August for a scheduled debut sometime during the 2011–12 TV season. Meanwhile, the casting reps some perfect timing for Parker: She had been cast in a Lifetime crime drama pilot called Meet Jane, but per Deadline, the network recently passed on the project. We’re pretty sure Parker traded up.
