BBC America is touting the upcoming series The Hour as a “riveting thriller,†but the trailer looks much more like a Mad Men–Broadcast News hybrid. In a good way. The British series, which debuts here August 17, stars Dominic West, Ben Whishaw (who played John Keats in Bright Star), and Romola Garai (Emma in 2009’s Emma mini-series) as the staff of a weekly news show. West plays Hector, the handsome lead anchor; Whishaw is Freddie, the ambitious upstart; and Garai is Bel, the up-and-coming producer. Come for Dominic West being all smarmy, stay for the inevitable mid-century modern furniture people love to drool over.
