Al Pacino Credits Rappers with Scarface’s Enduring Popularity

Critics didn’t think much of Scarface when it came out in 1982, but everyone knows how rappers feel about critics. Al Pacino, for his part, is grateful for the movie’s place in the hip-hop community’s heart:

“I don’t think anybody’s ever talked about it as articulately and clearly. I understood it better having heard them talk about it…I mean, they really get it and they understand it, and that’s a great thing. They’ve been very supportive all these years. I think they’ve helped us tremendously.â€

So, next time someone asks you to “say hello to [their] little friend†before displaying some kind of completely harmless object, you know who to thank. [MTV]
