Kevin Smith has long said that he’ll retire from filmmaking after making his next movie, the ice-hockey drama Hit Somebody, but it looks like it won’t be a simple one-and-done affair. Smith announced over the weekend that he’ll be splitting his final film into two parts, much like Harry Potter and Twilight before him (and like the forthcoming The Hunger Games); though Hit Somebody is ostensibly the story of a wannabe ice-hockey player who makes it into the big leagues, the first film will mostly detail the character’s childhood, ending with his entrée into professional ice hockey. No word yet on whether the more ambitious schedule will affect Smith’s personal two-parter: After decades of work behind the camera, he’s attempting to launch a new career as a talk-show host.
