Last night at MTV’s Video Music Awards, no one managed to overshadow a pregnant Beyoncé, impeccably dressed in a conservative floor-length Lanvin caftan, and later a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo. Not even Lady Gaga pretending to be a man, or Nicki Minaj wearing a day care. Yet it’s not hard to look classy at these things, which are, by glorious definition, mostly anything but.
