After the Kristen Wiig comedy Bridesmaids did knockout business at the box office, both director Paul Feig and co-star Melissa McCarthy told Vulture they’d both be game for a sequel. “It’s already been brought up,” Feig said then. “When you get a group that’s this deep and this good, it’s a crime to not use them again.” Alas, here comes co-star Jon Hamm to pump the brakes. When E! asked the actor this week whether he’d be up for Bridesmaids 2, Hamm said, “They need to lock [Wiig] up before me,” and on that matter, he was decidedly doubtful: “I don’t think Kristen is going to do it.” And as a Saturday Night Live veteran who recently worked with Wiig again on Friends With Kids, you’d have to think that Hamm is in a position to know, right? Is Wiig making the right decision not to sell out for a Hangover II–size payday, or is she merely clearing the way for an inevitable offer for McCarthy to star in her own spinoff? [E!]
