In what The Hollywood Reporter referred to as a “bizarre twist,†Lifetime has picked up the recently canceled America’s Most Wanted. Explaining the decision to take on the show, now in its 25th season, network head Nancy Dubuc said, “America’s Most Wanted … provides a very valuable service to both viewers and law enforcement agencies.†There are numbers to back up at least part of that statement — AMW has played a role in the capture of 1,000 fugitives over the years. As for the benefit to audiences? Well, there’s certainly nothing Lifetime watchers value more than feeling informed when it comes to the world’s endless variety of horrible, violent crimes, and the frequency with which they affect people just like them. Welcome home, John Walsh. [THR]
