This is a relief: Mindy Kaling, whose future as a writer on The Office had been in doubt over the last few months, is staying with the show. Vulture has learned that Kaling just inked a new agreement with NBC and sister studio Universal Television which will not only keep her onboard as an actor and writer on the show for at least one more season, but also bump her up to an executive producer of the series (joining B.J. Novak and showrunner Paul Lieberstein as actors with EP titles). What’s more, we hear that Kaling’s reps at United Talent Agency and 3 Arts Entertainment have structured the agreement so that Kaling will also have the opportunity to develop a new comedy series which she would both write and star in. But first, look for Kaling to start popping up on the talk-show circuit in coming weeks: Her new book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns), hits bookstores and e-readers November 1.
