Paramount had been considering including Chase’s as-of-yet-untitled writing and directing debut in this year’s awards ceremony, but has instead decided on an opening day of October 19, 2012, to be exact. Called Twylight Zones during production — relax, all you Twihards, there are no vampires and no werewolves in this picture — the film is set in New Jersey, a geography Chase knows well from his Sopranos days and his own childhood growing up there. The plot centers around a group of friends with rock-star dreams — another Chase autobiographical parallel — who start up a garage band. As for the cast, it’s a, shall we say, diverse assortment, from Everybody Loves Raymond’s dopey big-brother Brad Garrett to potty-mouth comedienne Lisa Lampanelli and it-wouldn’t-be-a-Chase-production-without-him, Mr. Soprano himself, James Gandolfini. While this sounds far more all-American than the gangster suburbia of Chase’s iconic mob series, we have full faith this TV master will pull it off just as well on the big screen. [Deadline]
