Buckle up and get your vomit bags ready! Charlie Sheen’s sitcom Anger Management, based on the movie Anger Management, is actually getting made. FX has ordered ten episodes of the series to premiere in summer 2012, with Sheen playing “an anger management therapist, who may need more counseling than his patients.†You don’t say! According to the press release — which, surprise surprise, makes no mention of Sheen’s infamous breakdown/flameout/national media spectacular — “Sheen will retain a significant ownership stake in the series,†meaning the warlock Adonis, or whatever he called himself oh those seven months ago, stands to make some bank off the deal if it’s a hit. (Though this may also indicate he’s not getting paid anything like his old salary up front.) Based on the stellar ratings for the first episode of the Sheen-less Two and a Half Men (which airs in reruns on FX already), folks are still at least a little bit interested in the whole Sheen situation. Whether that translates into interest in an entire season, well, we’ll see. Unfortunately. Meanwhile, FX is taking steps to ensure its carefully cultivated Quality Comedy brand isn’t tarnished: We hear Anger Management will not get the “FX Original Series†banner, and that the deal for the show was done outside of the usual creative development process. Instead, FX considers this a strict acquisition, much like those Men repeats it already airs. The downside: If the first ten episodes perform well, FX will immediately greenlight 90 more half-hours. The horror.
