An unnamed actress has filed a $1 million lawsuit against the Internet’s premier source of actor- and movie-related facts and figures, IMDb, as well as its parent company, Amazon. (At least sort of) Famous Jane Doe claims the site cost her work by listing her real age on her public profile because, the suit (correctly) states, “in the entertainment industry, youth is king.†Or queen, really, as her lawyer explained: “If one is perceived to be ‘over-the-hill,’ i.e. approaching 40, it is nearly impossible for an up-and-coming actress, such as the Plaintiff, to get work as she is thought to have less of an ‘upside.’†The woman believes IMDb uncovered her career-threatening secret by snooping through the credit card and personal information she submitted when signing up for the subscription-only “Pro†version of the database. The only clue to her identity is that she is “of Asian descent,†which really isn’t a lot to go on, even for the most expert IMDb user. [THR]
