As in, he can do one in under nineteen minutes. The 20-year-old wunder-producer, who’s responsible for the loud, histrionic beats of rappers like Waka Flocka Flame and Rick Ross, actually makes two beats during his New York Times Magazine profile: The first takes 22 minutes (Luger’s response: “Pssh. I’m getting oldâ€), and the second beat, featuring a Star Wars light-saber sound, comes together in 18:58 flat. The process admittedly sounds a little fun: There are illicit substances, flutes, and effects with names like “GunCock2†and “Slapper Knock.†Chair-dancing is allowed, pizza encouraged, and then it’s all wrapped up in the time it takes to watch an episode of Parks and Rec on Hulu (without commercials). This is how your rap music gets made! Magic. [NYTM]
