Since Vulture has admittedly not made an exhaustive effort to keep you up to date with the happenings of Kanye West’s onetime girlfriend, let us now do a quick recap: She’s with Wiz Khalifa now. She’s shilling for Smirnoff’s Marshmallow and Whipped Cream vodkas. She’s “forgiven Kim Kardashian†for getting in between her and Kanye. And she is launching a music career! Her first single, “Fame,†rests on the premise that you did not actually need a briefing on any of the above, and if that is the case, then you might not totally, 100 percent hate the track? (You might also begin to question your life choices, and if so, please know you’re not alone.)Â
Amber’s voice is of course enhanced beyond all recognizability as a human, and Wiz’s verse is by definition a throwaway. But (really, we’re sorry to be even typing this) that chorus is not uncatchy — the vowels are always a smart move. And in terms of the “Song by a Person Who Is Famous for Being Famous, Mostly†genre, “Fame†tops Kim Kardashian’s “Jam (Turn It Up)†and any of the Heidi Montag tracks. Maybe it’s even better than Paris Hilton’s “Stars Are Blind Not Lindsay Lohan’s “Rumors,†though. One stray thought: If Amber is having such a hard time being famous, then maybe she and Drake should be hanging out more? Sorry, forget we said anything.
